The process of digestion Essay Example for Free

The procedure of processing Essay The Process of Digestion Over the course of time there have been numerous troublesome inquiries and speculations about regular day to day existence. Utilizing physiology science, those inquiries have had the option to be replied. From the blend of gases noticeable all around we inhale to the natural substance of plastic or paper, science can be seen all over the place. Be that as it may, a great many people mixed up the intensity of science in our own bodies. How is it that a straightforward cut of bread, once expended, can transform into fuel for the human body? Utilizing the stomach related framework and its numerous organs through the procedure of assimilation and etabolism is the manner by which our bodies get the vitality it needs to proceed for the duration of the day and the remainder of our lives. Science at that point kicks in as food begins its procedure from entering to leaving the body, through the pace of our digestion, and furthermore by the exchange of vitality. The science in the stomach related framework is a significant procedure, on the grounds that without it there would be no human life. Contrasted with every single other framework in the body, the stomach related framework is one of the most various and significant. As per Robert Sullivan the stomach related framework is a set gathering of organs whose unction depends on the way toward turning food, engrossing supplements for vitality and disposing of the bodies squander (Sullivan, 2008, p. 33). The organs that are in the stomach related framework are the accompanying: throat, stomach, small digestive system, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, colon or internal organ, rectum and rear-end (Ballard, 2003). Envision having a decent supper with heavenly smelling food. Presently, envision eating the food. Have you at any point pondered where your food has gone once you expend it? Through your stomach related framework where the mass of food experiences a procedure called assimilation. Assimilation is the compound and physical breakdown of food into structures, for example, vitality or supplements that can be utilized by the bodys cells (McKenzie, 2010). The entire procedure begins in the mouth. The mouth contains a watery substance called salivation. Salivation is imperative to the entire procedure of food absorption, in light of the fact that in addition to the fact that it helps with detecting taste, yet it is likewise comprised of compounds that separate the fats and starches in food at an atomic level. The throat is where gulped food makes a trip down to the stomach. The stomach is a solid sac that goes about as a blender nd blends food in with corrosive, hydrochloric corrosive, which separates the gulped mate and flushes the supplements into the small digestive tract (Columbia University, 2010). The hydrochloric corrosive in the stomach is so amazing it can eat through a calfskin shoe. In any case, the stomach contains different synthetic concoctions, for example, gastric corrosive, bodily fluid and compounds that additionally mellow food (Sullivan, 2008). The outcome so far during the time spent absorption in the stomach is currently called toll (Sullivan, 2008). When the stomach has carried out its Responsibility processing the food, your supper, presently toll, goes to the small digestive tract where the last phase of absorption happens. The rest of the food is isolated as either waste or supplements. The supplements are consumed and taken in as fuel for the body while the waste enters the internal organ and went through the rectum and butt to leave the body. Its interesting to realize that your supper gets artificially organ has a particular job that is brought out through various methods. From developing to learning our body needs vitality to work, however in what manner would food be able to be transformed into vitality? It tends to be transformed into vitality through every people one of a kind digestion. The fundamental response that happens in the stomach related framework is called Metabolism. Digestion happens all over the place, yet mostly in the stomach where is separates substances into littler atomic structures, which gives the body vitality (Online School Edition, 2011). Our digestion systems are compound responses that are helped out through a microcellular impetus called a chemical. Catalysts help artificially separate huge supplements, proteins, fats and starches into littler types of amino acids, unsaturated fats and basic sugars (Online School Edition, 2011). Amino acids and unsaturated fats are primarily where we get our vitality from. The entire procedure begins when we eat and our digestion separates the food. The amino acids and unsaturated fats are assimilated into the blood where once they append to a phone, they are then ready to accelerate the compound responses occurring while the amino and unsaturated fats are checking the responses in the phone some vitality is discharged. This vitality can be put away in the body until it is required (Online School Edition, 2011). There are two types of digestion called anabolism and catabolism. Anabolism is putting away vitality and keeping up cells while catabolism is tied in with making vitality so every cell has a particular add up to work appropriately (Ballard, 2003). The bodys digestion is comprised of numerous responses that produce heat or a calorie. A calorie is a fundamental unit of warmth that estimates how much vitality a fixed extent of food brings into the body. Calories are utilized to manage the fat in our bodies as well. On the off chance that an individual expends an excess of calories, at that point the calories will transform into fat. The procedure of digestion in every people body is extremely interesting and unique. A few digestion systems run moderate, which brings about less calories consumed and others consume rather rapidly, which brings about less calories (McKenzie, 2010). Whatever the pace of digestion, many can concur that this rocess is assorted and confounded, yet in addition essential to regular day to day existence. As everything else in the body, our chemicals need vitality to keep the digestion in a steady stream, this is the place ATP comes into the condition. ATP, Adenosine Triphosphate, is the significant wellspring of vitality in the human body. ATP plays a central point in energizing our bodies by giving and putting away vitality. A typical ATP particle has a solid bond called a phosphodiester bond, which stores vitality that possibly discharges when the body needs it (Ballard, 2003). The structure of the ATP particle is extremely elite; since it has an oxygen atom that is associated with three hosphorous gatherings, clue the name triphosphate. At the point when one phosphate bunch is removed the ATP atom transforms into ADP. ADP is continually attempting to be recovered to ATP where there is a higher vitality level. Consider it like a battery. At the point when the battery is coming up short, you energize it, Just like ATP and ADP. At the point when an ADP particle is coming up short on vitality more vitality from food renews the vitality that was lost, which includes another phosphate bunch making the atom convert from ADP to ATP (Ballard, 2003). Without ATP there wouldnt be any vitality that could be accommodated the cells to use in the body. Whenever you eat numerous concoction responses in your body will happen, anyway you are primarily reviving your body with fuel and supplements for it to proceed with the day. In the stomach related framework there are warmth, and that's just the beginning. Indeed, even today more physicists are expounding on new revelations and significant realities of the many procedure and responses in the stomach related framework. Maybe the most recent disclosure in this field would be the new eating routine plans that will in general accelerate the procedure of digestion which makes cells, including fat, separate quicker bringing about a more slender midriff. The stomach related framework is novel and not quite the same as all ther frameworks in the body since it has numerous organs that each have their own significant job, a particular procedure of where food voyages, lastly various responses through digestion and different procedures through ATP that convert the food we eat into fuel. Without the stomach related framework the body would come up short and there would be no human life. Subsequently, it is critical to acknowledge the basic job that science plays an enormous job in human life, yet in all life. Presently as you eat your Thanksgiving feast with your family this year, you can envision the entire procedure from beginning to end!

An Argument On An Ontological Argument Essay - 715 Words

NO THANKSGET THE APP Philosophy Essay #2 Beverly Perez Dr. Jacob Tuttle PHIL 1880-21 // MWF3-4PM 04 December 2015 An ontological argument tries to show that God exists by appealing only to truths of reasons, which can be known apart from observation. This is what Anselm attempts to do. Anselm first starts by establishing that God is the greatest possible being that can be imagined, acknowledging that God exists in the mind. Based on this his argument can be stated with the following premises: It is a conceptual truth that God is the greatest possible being that can be imagined. (God exists as an idea in the mind.) A being that exists as an idea in the mind and in reality is, greater than a being that exists only as an idea in the mind. Thus, if God exists only as an idea in the mind, then we can imagine something greater, but we cannot imagine something that is greater than God. Therefore, God exists. Premise number one is Anselm’s conception of God. Premise number two is a logical truth, again according to Anselm. Finally, premise number three simply follows from the previous two premises. In short, Anselm’s thinking behind his argument is â€Å"because a supreme being exists in the understanding, it must exist in reality.† He defends his argument by comparing a non-existent â€Å"something† with an existent â€Å"something†. An existent â€Å"something†, says Anselm, is greater than a non-existent â€Å"something†. Question: Write a "Successful Completion" and reflective analysis? Answer: Reflective Analysis In order to fulfill the first learning outcome, I have focused on my interpersonal skill to understand the principles of interpersonal communication that are inescapable, irreversible, complicated and contextual. It helped me to understand the different communication ways that was beneficial for me to develop my skill and have healthy conversation. For the second outcome that is teamwork skills I have focused on my internal skills and experience that helped me in coping up with other team member (Johnson, 2012). On the other hand I focused on listening, persuading, sharing and participating skills that was valuable for doing the work in effective way. Apart from that, for third outcome, I dealt with communication skill by using verbal and written format in order to converse with the other people. It was effective in completing the task in due time and gaining due support from other people. In the fourth learning, I focused on oral presentation for delivering my thoughts and work to the audience. It was done by creating a simple and in understandable language. In the next that is fifth learning, I discussed the effectives of following ethics and adopting codes of behavior and dealt with issues relating to legal, societal and privacy in reference ICT industry. I have used the entire principles associated behind such act and it developed my personal and professional skill. In the sixth learning, I highlighted on the work practices that has to be adopted during course of action. It helped me in knowing that work has to be done within the set rules and practice so that other does not get affected. In the seventh learning, I assess the use of ICT in improving the processes of organization. I found that ICT is helpful in coordinating the work and work can be carried in quick pace (Morrison, 2012). In the eighth learning, I found that use of technology is effective in enhancing the communication channel that increases the information and work process. The course helped me to enhance my knowledge and professional skill that will be beneficial for me in my future development. The two things that I liked during the course is focus on interpersonal skill and use of ICT in organization. I liked it because interpersonal skill is necessary to build better and healthy relationship with the people around. On the other hand, advancement in technology such ICT has reduced the workload and work can be carried in much easier manner. Therefore, ICT is important in today complex environment. I found that there was lack of support from the seniors and due to that it took time for me to understand the topic and continuing my work. Therefore, I want it should be improved so that other people can be able to do their task in due time. Other suggestion that I want to provide is reduction in the course length. I want it because lengthy course increases fatigue and lower down the interest of mine. Therefore, short course length will maintain the interest and work can be done in more effective manner. Japanese and Korean Shipping Industry

Questions: 1. How does shipping accommodate economies of scale?2. What are the advantages of a globalised market for shipping? Answers: Introduction Container shipping has developed significantly since the 1950s, particularly in terms of vessel size. However, the question of economies of scale may have a direct impact on the worldwide shipping industry. Issues like poor financing, strong competition, the decline of conferences, and a less regulated shipping industry are exerting pressure on many carriers to minimise their expenses and develop innovative ideas. The advantage of economies of scale in shipping is strong involvement of government that would help to maintain higher capacity in producing larger ship sizes and environment solutions by increasing cost savings. Further, advantages of global maritime markets could lead to rapid ship speed, intensive-oil power systems, opening shipping routes, and specialisation of maritime solutions. However, the shipping industry has been facing fierce competition that is creating issues for the newcomers to enter the market. Based on these concepts, this report would highlight the shippi ng industry economies of scales specially focusing on the Japanese and Korean shipping industry and would also discuss the advantages of globalised market for the shipping industry. 1. How does shipping accommodate economies of scale? Like other different transportations, the shipping industries also have profited from economies of scale in inland transportation, transhipment and maritime shipping. For maritime container shipping, the capacity of the ships increases with low- cost per TEU. Thus, in this context, it can be said that there is a possibility to increase the size of the ships. Therefore, dry cargo vessels have steadily increased in size, and have closed the gap with oil tankers on average. In1995, they were, on average half the size and by 2005, they were excelled two third of the average tank size. Container vessels have also beyond their average size, enlarging dramatically from 1995 to 2007. In TEU terms, the average size of a 1995 containership was 1,431. By 2006, it had improved to 2,316 with an increase of 56% over the original value (ICS, 2013, Pp86). A ships deadweight that is its cargo-capacity in tonnes is the principal measure size for cargo ships. Japan and South Korea have recently overwhelmed the shipbuilding industry, producing over two-thirds of the world ships, with China coming up very fast and trembling its between 2005, aiming to be the largest ship builder (Stopford, 2009, Pp614). Initially, the western nations used to dominate the shipping industry. But presently, Korea has been leading the market, followed by China and Japan (shown below in the graph) (Sung et al., 2010). Figure 1: Global Shipbuilding Industry Market Shares Source: (Sung et al., 2010) Although South Korea is leading global shipping industry market share, Japanese government involvement in shipping industry would considerably influence on maritime economy. The government of Japan gave information on seven organizations that are recorded in either the Osaka or Tokyo stock exchanges five are recorded as shipbuilding organisations while the other two are recorded as enhanced hardware companies. Each of the organisations is a vast industry in shipbuilding, and each is held by different groups of shareholders (Council Working party on Ship Building, 2013). The detailed information below illustrates Japanese government involvement: Shareholder's (%) Company Financial Institutions Security companies Other corporations Foreign Institutions/Individuals Individuals/Others Government and local public entities Mitsubishi Heavy Industries(MHL) 34.8 1.2 9.4 21 33.6 0 Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding(MES) 37.6 2.9 13.9 13.1 32.5 0 Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) 35.6 2.1 10.2 16.2 35.9 0 Namura Shipbuilding 12.6 1.9 46.3 12.6 26.6 0 Sasebo Heavy Industries 18.6 1.5 27.8 8.5 42.6 0 Sanoyasu Holdings 19.2 2.3 38.2 8.4 32.9 0 Naikai Zosen 9.6 0.5 40.3 2.1 47.5 0 (1) Sasebo City owns 0.9% the stocks of Saseobo Heavy Industries, for fund management purposes. Source: Council working party in shipbuilding, 2013, Pp14 Also, the graphical representation shows the stability of Japanese ship building capacity: Figure 2: Stability of Japanese ship building capacity Source: (Korea Shipbuilders Association, 2009, pp11) In contrast, there have been controversial arguments in South Korea shipping firms owing to a lack of government involvement. Korea Business (2013) states financial burdens of South Korean shipping firms are demanding practical support countermeasures from the Korean government and financial institutes. 4C Offshore (2015) also claims a rise in government exposure to the industry via ownership, credit export policies and the increase in the risk of government finances could deteriorate the Korean shipbuilding industry. To consider of the problem of Korean shipbuilding industry is the government is only proving ship acquisition fund to small and medium-sized ships firms. Furthermore, financial support from a financial institution is state-backed, which means it requires more than 4 billion of $US. These funds would avoid cancelling more than 100 new shipbuilding orders. This effect would lead South Korean shipbuilding debts (Oblakova, n.d). Ship-owners Association held in a conference in Seouls Yeouido Maritime building on 12 September. They agreed that the threat of financial debts is facing in the Korean Shipping industries. This requires an urgent need of government support. The Korean shipbuilding organisations also have been receiving a lot of public complaints due to odour (1.3%), particulate matter (32.1%) and mostly due to noise pollution (65%). However, it is found that most of the complaints received are the small- and medium-sized companies compared to large-scale shipyards. Conversely, Japanese shipbuilding has been working successfully. They have been mitigating such public complaint issues by utilising the lubrication system that takes some scavenging air from main engines turbocharger to the vessels bottom to reduce frictional resistance between the hull bottom and seawater, consequently curtailing CO2 emission. A system featuring this scavenging by air, by pass technology is expected to be effective in cutting down CO2 emissions from large ship having deep drafts (Japanese Ship Technology Research Association, 2014, Pp3). The expansion of Japanese vessels is not only more stable than their competitors, but also small and medium firms special ise in Japanese shipbuilding, thus domestic and international economic scales could significantly enhance. 2. What are the advantages of a globalised market for shipping? Shipping has been an imperative human action all through history, especially where thriving depended principally on worldwide and interregional trade. Globalisation is persuaded by the recognition that goods and resources are not generally arranged with the populaces that craving them, thus worldwide services of transportation are required. Due to globalisation, there has been a rise in the use of containers since 1956. Therefore, high-limit boats have been fabricated; today more than 60 have a limit more than 5,000 20-foot identical units (TEUs). Studies conjecture 6% yearly growth in traffic of container through 2005, as a consequence of proceeds with extension of the utilisation of containers by the industry of shipping in developing nations; expanded trade made merchandise and products with a higher worth included; the pattern towards globalisation by multinational makers; and development of megaships shows a rise in feeder and ship activity. Globalisation actually helps the shipping industry to minimise the expense of every unit of delivery, which were mostly utilized as transformation to fuel alternation in the 1900s instead of protecting energies. Oil-controlled business ships obliged fewer crews and appreciated different operations in fuelling. Oil controlled ships likewise quickened more rapidly than coal-fuelled frameworks, and could attain to higher velocities. Considering above components, global delivery have changed the whole armada from coal to oil more than five decades (Corbett Winebrake, 2008, Pp10). As it is indicated figure3, other than shipbuilding, there have been the progressions of different patterns in the advancement of the worldwide maritime area. The moving of energy creation to new ranges, especially the Arctic locale, and opening of new delivering courses, for example, the Northeast Passage, makes a developing interest for particular sea and seaward arrangements, and in addition new shipping services. Environmental-accommodating arrangements, for example, clean tech are developing the importance of consciousness of ecological preventions and the relocation of atmosphere changes could affect to worldwide sea commercial ventures (Smartcomp, 2013, Pp6). Figure 3. Comparison of the world fleet and sea trade developments Source: (Smartcomp, 2013, Pp6) From figure 4, it appears that there are minor obstacles when directing the investigation for tanker boats. However, in this case, the fixation is significantly bigger, since South Korea had a 66% offer, and the three primary exporters were in charge of 94.7% of all tanker fares worldwide. While creation, which is gathered, is performed in numerous nations, exportation is considerably more focused since it is performed by just a little number of nations. These certainties indicate the strict choice of the purchaser advertise that is positively connected to the cost and nature of the conveyances, additionally to less target elements. This proof demonstrates the significance of a decent market passage procedure for organisations wishing to go into this business sector (Pinto Colin, 2009, Pp144). Figure 4: largest ship importers between 1990 and 2006 Source: Pinto Colin, 2009, Pp144 Conclusion In conclusion, it appears Japanese shipbuilding development, including vessel sizes and types are more stable and a strong government involvement may secure the expansion of shipbuilding businesses, as well as financial issues. On the other hand, South Korea seems to struggle with ship building investment due to a lack of government support. Moreover, with the development of globalised markets, there are various factors can improve; shipping speed, intensive oil-power system, maritime offshore and environmental-friendly solutions, and international routes. However, newcomers may be difficult to compete due to strict selection of buyer's market and less objective factors and environment solutions are needed. It is predicted that the Japanese shipping industry would be leading other countries for some centuries. Furthermore, Japanese ship building firms are dominating the market in Asia as well as worldwide, if there were more effective international collaborations, there would be less financial issues, economies of scale seem to be efficient, particularly with Japanese firms, however, in Asia generally, there remain some barriers to progress, for instance, a lack of government involvement and environmental friendly solutions. Perhaps, there are further steps can be taken from government in order to improve Asian economies of scale; intensive financial support for all types of domestic shipping industry, as well as setting up smoother maritime government policies in Asia and international markets. How to Write a Sample Abstract For English Essay

How to Write a Sample Abstract For English EssayIn order to write a great sample abstract propectus for English essay, one needs to understand some important aspects about the subject matter. Abstracts are usually written for a class project. You must know that the subjects you write must relate to your class or project so that your abstract will be understood. Since this type of document is used as an outline for your writing, it should be understandable to your classmates as well as other people who will read it. The reason why most students fail in this area is because they think the topics will be enough to write a document and have it understood. It is therefore vital that you also put into consideration certain types of topics that you may discuss in your paper. When you are drafting the topic, you must first consider the context in which it will be presented. There is no point in writing about a topic that you do not have any connection with. This does not mean that you have to write about something that you have never heard of. However, it is still necessary to include some form of background information that can be very helpful in making the topic more believable. It is therefore important that you give your class members some idea of what you have written regarding your topic.Another aspect that will make a good topic is the topic itself. Sometimes, students tend to write the paper without considering whether or not the topic will be understandable. This is where your proofreading skills come in handy. As a rule, you should only include information that can be understood by your classmates.Of course, the topic you choose will also depend on the subject matter. For example, if you are working on a math topic, you need to make sure that you have dealt with different concepts relating to math before including this information in your paper. Similarly, if you are dealing with business topics, you must include information on the general field or industry so that you can make sure that you write about the proper thing. Before you begin writing, you should also make sure that the main purpose of your paper is clear to everyone involved. This can be done through using a review paper or other brainstorming session. You also need to consider certain subjects that are not necessarily related to your class or project. You can discuss such subjects with your classmates or supervisors. Some people even research these topics in order to make sure that they have covered all their bases when it comes to the topic.Always remember that a sample abstract for English essay is not just for you to use to practice your writing skills. It is also used as a reference. You must also go over the materials that are available so that you will not forget to include the things that you have discussed in your abstract.

The South And Slavery Essays - Slavery, African Slave Trade

The South And Slavery Mr. Wills Matt Weiss U.S. History I April 3, 2000 The South and Slavery The Societies of the North and South were very different. They were two regions of the country that depended very heavily on each other but yet seemed so far apart. Disagreeing on almost every aspect of how to reside and especially on very specific issues like slavery and emancipation. The North was an industrious, moneymaking, region. They respected blacks and gave them more rights than in the South where they had none. They still were not given the same rights as whites. Theodore Weld an influential abolitionist wrote many pamphlets. In one he stated. Reader, what have you to say of such a treatment? Is it right, just, benevolent? Suppose I should seize you, rob you of your liberty, drive you into the field, and make you work as long as you livewould that be justice and kindness, or monstrous injustice and cruelty?(Weld 464, The Annals of America) We will prove that the slaves in the United States are treated with barbarous inhumanity; that they are overworked, underfed, wretchedly clad and lodged, and have insufficient sleep(Weld 466, The Annals of America) The South made money, but the economy was based on agriculture. They did not have the factories or the work force of the North. So they turned to something even more prosperous, slavery. This peculiar institu tion is strongly defended, even using the Bible. William Harper wrote The Inequality of Man in 1837, which argued that all men are not created equal. Then inequality is further developed, and becomes infinite in every society, and under whatever form of government. Wealth and poverty, fame or obscurity, strength or weakness, knowledge or ignorance, ease or labor, power or subjection mark the endless diversity in the condition of men.(Harper 342, The Annals of America) The South used their own slave work force to build their Cotton Kingdom. The South had so much invested in farming cash crops and in agriculture and so little invested in factories and mass-producing goods an extreme shift such as emancipating all of the slaves would have been too much of a risk. That was all people knew and the economy could collapse. People would lose their livelihood. the Negro race, from their temperament and capacity, are peculiarly suited to the situation which they occupy, and not less happy in it than any corresponding class to be found in the world; prove incontestably that no scheme of emancipation could be carried into effect without the most intolerable mischiefs and calamities to both master and slave, or without probably throwing a large portion of the earths surface out of the pale of civilization(Harper 341, The Annals of America) There were a few alternatives such as hiring workers, but for most southerners this was out of the question. If the large plantation owners were forced to pay workers to do the work of a hundred or more slaves the profit loss would be huge. The workers would demand better hours than the slaves got and could quit if they did not want the job anymore. The small farmers who owned ten or less slaves would be forced to do all the work themselves because they could not afford paid labor. Even the churches and clergymen in the South supported slavery. On May 16, 1861, the Presbyterian Assembly met in Philadelphia. Only a few southern presbyteries were in attendance. When a Northern clergyman called for an oath of allegiance to the Federal Government, the Southern clergymen defected. There were a few Northerners who agreed with the South these were the poorest whites and the immigrants. They did not want the slaves emancipated because they saw them as competition for jobs. Many bonds were broken between the North and the South. They both had their own ways of living and own ideas of what was right and wrong. Neither would bend or give in and war was imminent. We were given 5 solutions Essay Example

We were given 5 solutions Essay Example We were given 5 solutions Essay We were given 5 solutions Essay We were given 5 solutions labelled A, B, C, D and E. We were told that there was a reducing sugar, starch, non-reducing sugar, lipid and protein. My aim was to carry out some standard tests on these solutions and identify them as appropriate.MethodI will perform a standard test on each solution until they prove conclusive upon which I will move to the next solution. The tests are dteialed below and it is the order I followed on each solution. Background to Test 1: Reducing Sugar TestAll monosaccharides and some disaccharides are reducing sugars. The test for a reducing sugar is known as the Benedicts test. When a reducing sugar is heated with an alkaline solution of copper II sulphate it forms an insoluble precipitate of copper I oxide. The colour of the precipitate changes from green through yellow, orange and brown to deep red, depending on the quantity of reducing sugar present.Test 1* Put 1cm3 of test solution in test tube* Add 1 cm3 of Benedicts solution* Place in water bath for 5 minutes* Record any colour changeBackground to Test 2: Non-Reducing Sugar TestThere is no direct test for a non reducing sugar, but they can be identified by first hydrolising them with a dilute acid and then detecting the resulting reducing sugars by the Benedicts test. (This is why I have this test at number 2, so I automatically perform this after Test 1)Test 2* Follow as above and note that there was NO colour change* Add 1cm3 of HCL* Neutralise by adding a few drops of NaOH* Add 1cm3 of Benedicts solution* Heat in water bath* Record any colour changeBackground to Test 3: StarchStarch is easily detected by its ability to turn iodine in potassium iodide solution from a yellow colour to blue-black. The colouration is due to the iodine molecules becoming fixed in the centre of the helix of each starch molecule. It is important to do the test in room temperature as high temperature cause the starch helix to unwind which releases the iodine and assumes its usual yellow colouration. Test 3* Take a couple of drops of test solution and put in spotting tile* Add a few drops of iodine* Record any colour changeBackground to Test 4: LipidsThe test for lipids is known as the emulsion test. Ethanol reacts with the sample. To make sure the lipid dissolves in the sample it needs to be shaken. Water is then added. A cloudy white colour is the presence of a lipid. The cloudy colour is due to any lipid in the sample being finely dispersed in the water to form an emulsion. Light passing through this emulsion is refracted as it passes from oil droplets to water droplets, making it appear cloudy.Test 4* Put 1cm3 of test solution in test tube* Add a few drops of ethanol* Shake and water* Record any colour changeBackground to Test 5: ProteinsThe most reliable protein test is the Biuret test, which detects peptide links. First to a sample of the solution add an equal volume of sodium hydroxide. Secondly, add a few drops of very dilute (0.05%) copper II sulphate solution and mix g ently. A purple colouration indicates the presence of peptide bonds and hence a protein.Test 5* Put 1cm3 of test solution in test tube* Add biuret solution* Record colour changeResults TableSolutionReducing SugarNon-Reducing SugarStarchLipidProteinAPurple XBBrown XCCloudy XDBlack XEBrown XConclusionI performed the tests as described in numerical order. If for example a test proved positive on Test 2, then I did not carry on with Test 3 and so on. My results are show above, it shows that solution A was a protein, solution B was a reducing sugar, solution C was a lipid, solution D was a starch and solution E was a non-reducing sugar.

Consumer Values Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5250 words

Consumer Values - Research Paper Example This research examines how hedonic versus utilitarian consumption can vary in typical purchase situations, depending on the decision context, and the manners in which consumers justify their purchases with their own values of time, money and method. Babin and Darden's article "Work and/or Fun: Measuring Hedonic and Utilitarian Shopping Value" focuses on the dimensions of hedonic and utilitarian consumer purchases, with the "shopping as work" and the "shopping as fun" consumer experiences. The shopping experience is an activity in which both the utilitarian based need and the hedonic based desire are important dimensions of the consumer's shopping experience because shopping involves more than the economics of supply and demand, there is also the social and psychological aspect. These dual dimensions are scaleable to recognize "formally that a shopping experience can be valuable, or valueless, in more than one way" (Babin and Darden p 644 1994). The statement 'in more than one way,' as it approaches the valuation of consumption is the theoretical view that consumers have scaleable utilitarian and hedonic desires in a psychological and physical sense, as well as the fact that customers have behavioral responses to these senses. Hedonic and Utilitarian Concepts The traditional concepts of cost and benefit values are perceived as having characteristics of exclusively product and price, the standard economics of supply and demand where the consumers experience is exclusively based on the products quality and price evaluations to control consumption choices and demands, and yet this does not define the reasoning of consumers emotional connections, where "A fourth definition equates value with an overall assessment of subjective worth considering all relevant evaluative criteria" (Babin and Darden p 645 1994), in a sense the overall assessment is the consumers emotional constructs, the sociological and psychological desire to feel rewarded in more than the physical sense of achievement. Babin and Darden analyze that shopping has both utilitarian and hedonic traits, where a methodology only encompasses the consumable and its dimensional and monetary values lacks the ability to fully measure the shoppers' experience, a concept expressed as having importance in other research, although "Far less research has been conducted to examine whether contrast effects occur among hedonic experiences (i.e., experiences of pleasure or pain)" (Novemsky and Rattner p 507 2003). Babin and Darden's research recognizes the empirical and "experiential perspective," with the value of the experience being the key outcome variable as described by Holbrook. The researchers reveal Holbrook statement on value as having "an interactive relativistic preference experience," meaning that the experience and value are relative to one another in the sense of importance the consumer places on those as well as on the actual purchase. The initial conclusion is that both utilitarian

Organization of Islamic Conference Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Organization of Islamic Conference - Essay Example The Organization was established in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco, on 12 Rajab 1389H (25 September 1969) when the First meeting of the leaders of the Islamic world was held in this city in the rouse of the unlawful arson perpetrated on 21 August 1969 by Zionist fundamentals against Al-Aqsa Mosque, in occupied Jerusalem. 1 It was certainly in order to secure the honor, dignity and faith of the Muslims, to face this inconsiderate challenge launched in the holy city of Al-Quds so dear to them and against the Mosque of Al-Aqsa, that the leaders of the Muslim world, at their Summit in Rabat, held that event, which brought about unanimous worldwide denunciation and reprobation, to think together of their common cause and congregate the force required to overcome their differences, unite and lay the foundations of this large grouping of States, that is, the Organization of the Islamic Conference which they commended, in absolute precedence, with liberating Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa from occupation. After that, the meeting of Heads of State and Government constitute the highest policy making organ of the OIC. The Summit Conferences enable the leader of the Islamic world to periodically review the conditions within the Islamic world as well as the entire spectrum of international political developments from an Is lamic perspective. Organization of the Islamic Conference - OIC "Six months after that historical meeting, i.e. in Muharram 1390H (March 1970), the First Islamic Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs held in Jeddah set up a permanent General Secretariat, to ensure a connection among Member States and charged it to synchronize their action. The Conference appointed its Secretary General and chose Jeddah as the Headquarters of the Organization, in anticipation of the liberation of Jerusalem, which would be the permanent Headquarters."2 Framework of the OIC Four dedicated institutions have been set up within the framework of the OIC, namely, The Islamic Development Bank; The Islamic Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization; the Islamic States Broadcasting Organization and the International Islamic News Agency. The general secretariat of the OIC has permanent viewer status at the United Nations and maintains its headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Doha Declaration (November 2000) called for an end to the occupation in Palestine and invited those member states that had traditional relations with the State of Israel to "put an end to all forms of normalization with Israel until it authentically and exactly implements U.N. resolutions relevant to the issue of Palestine. " The Kuala Lumpur Statement on International Terrorism, issued during the extraordinary

Leadership Assessment Essay Example for Free

Leadership Assessment Essay Leadership can be best defined as beauty. One may say that is in the eye of the beholder. The best managers consistently allow different leaders to emerge and inspire their teammates. My prior organization, Comcast Corporation, a telecommunications provider, mission statement is to deliver a superior experience to their customers every day. Jason Biske, whom is Director of Sales and Operation, created an environment where Comcast is focused solely on customers by building relationships. When we would see him, he would always speak and ask how your day or sales was going. Jason was really big on keeping the sales floor informed of new promos or contests that were going on by sending constant email communications, ongoing training sessions, or holding focus groups on various processes of improvement in the sales process. When it came to leadership styles, Jason Biske demonstrated several. He embraced democratic, coaching, pacesetting, and authoritative. He initiated structure and created an environment that made you feel a part of something. Along with that he showed consideration. We felt like our opinions mattered and there was a concern for the employees. Leaders provide a sense of direction for the employees of the organization. Without this sense of direction (both strategic and ethical), the organization and its employees could easily lose their direction. In order for any leader to be successful all styles need to be incorporated. Leaders, therefore, are given the responsibility of creating and shaping culture. The organizational structure that has been created has positioned the company in the smartest way possible. † As the world changes, the culture of organizations must sometimes be re-shaped to better fit the environment and the overall strategy of the organization (Buhler)†.Comcast strongly believes in teamwork, integrity, creativity and commitment within the organization. Managers must be convinced of the benefits as well as higher performance for their teams if they are to become enthusiastic leaders of change. â€Å"Above all, senior executives should encourage managers to think big: the new world of work opens up new possibilities for how companies define their boundaries and organize work (Lund, 2012)†.Having such a strong team of leadership gives employees as well as potential talent something to look forward to in regards to a career. The positive thing about having a clear organizational structure is simply it allows you to see the formal relationship that exits between the departments. Jason Biske‘s job as director was to improve the sales process and increase revenue in the sales department. As a result he increased revenue by 24 percent. He also rolled out a process called Sales Pro which would make the sales process simpler by focusing on relationships. Even though his styles motivated employees, he used communication through m ass emails mostly. On a daily basis, you would receive several reports on how the company is profiting. At my career level no one understood how we were contributing to these successes. Jason would get you excited to make money but somewhere in there the leadership failed.† According to Moorhead and Griffin (1998) employee motivation and ability jointly contribute towards employee performance and the most challenging task of the managers is to motivate employee to execute the utmost of their ability†. (Iqbal)†. When you have middle managers that are not as excited about their jobs, it is hard to keep the customer service reps motivated to sale the product or meet numbers when the objectives are not clear. In an organization, an individual has to be seen as a contributor. Most importantly, you have to keep your employees motivated. Most people never make it to the top because they are successful at being a doer instead of being a leader. â€Å"Leadership is more about inspiration, about guidance, about communication and building trust among the team. Management is probably the day-to-day running of an organization. It is about developing and organizing aspects of your businesses and running those businesses (Toor, 2011)†. Some best pra ctices that organizational leaders can follow are 1. Accept feedback from the people that work with you. No one knows best other than the people that deal with the customers every day. Some of the most successful companies are profitable because the organizational leader listened to what the employees shared. There is value in shared values. Secondly, try a crazy idea every now and then. Employees like creativity and a challenge to keep them on their toes. Lastly, show courage. Effective leaders sometimes have to issue orders whether or not it means they are popular or not. If you are leading effectively then your team will support you. Leaders are made, not born. â€Å"I consider leadership as something long term with a clear vision of what to achieve. Management, however, is more about function; it’s short-term and involves setting a target and achieving it. Diversity is not only important to the work environment and the business but it can also have some legal ramifications if not followed properly.† Workplace Diversity refers to the variety of differences between people in an organization. The roots of diversity does not begin to range from race, gender, ethnic group, age, personality, educational background etc., rather it begins from perception of the employees towards each other (Andrew Patrick, 2011)†. Ccompanies that embrace employees from different cultural backgrounds, experiences and even countries are better positioned to succeed in this century. Hiring a diverse workforce helps a company stay in compliance with employment laws and build workplaces that are more inclusive. It also assists employees in reaching their fullest potential. When hiring and managing employees from different cultures and backgrounds it can be challenging, but it can also be very rewarding. â€Å"Diversity is not a photo opportunity. Anybody can recruit anybody. Keeping people is the challenge (Sreedhar, 2011)†. Most corporations have diversity council which allows you to manage diversity globally therefore allowing others to learn from different perspectives and cultures. From a business perspective, companies have become more innovative requiring expansion into global territories. It requires them to move people as well as products around. With that being said, a company must be able to understand international customers, their commerce and their competition better than before. Works Cited Andrew Patrick, H. (2011).
